Frequently asked Questions

Is there a minimum length-of-stay requirement?

At the Clipper Elb-Lodge, you can book your stay for one night, one month or a whole year. Only at certain times during the year is a minimum stay of two to three nights required. We also offer various promotions and special rates which may involve a minimum stay.

Do I need a credit card to make the booking?

A credit card is not required when reserving standard or corporate rates. You can, however, guarantee your booking with a credit card to ensure your reservation is held for you even after 6pm on the day of arrival. Please note that reservations not guaranteed by credit card will be cancelled after 6pm. You may need to enter a credit card number or prepay when booking promotional or other special rates. Please see the booking conditions of the respective offer.

Can I book the stay with breakfast?

The Hanse Clipper Haus does not provide breakfast on site. As part of a co-operation with the “Coffee & Cakes“, however, we do offer a delicious breakfast option which you can enjoy from 7amdaily. You can book the breakfast directly through us for a price of € 10 per person/day, and the reception staff at the Hanse Clipper Haus will give you a voucher for the bistro.

What are the advantages of making a direct booking?

The cheapest rates are available on our website or via telephone bookings, and we will be glad to provide you with further information on this. Please let us know if you find a better price for the same service elsewhere.

During what hours can I call the Reservations office?

Our Reservations office is available on +49 800 – 2547737* 9am to 6pm Monday to Thursday and 8am to 4.30pm on Fridays. *Calls from German landlines are free. If calling from abroad, please contact our reception directly on +49 40 – 376960.

How can I book/negotiate a contract rate?

If you book as part of a contract rate, please use the booking code advised to you in the booking mask on our website or tell us the code when booking by telephone.
Travelling on business and planning an extended stay or multiple stays in Hamburg? Please contact our Ms Feld, our Sales Manager via email (f.feld@clipper-boardinghouses.de) to arrange a contractual corporate rate.

Can apartments also be booked for families?

You and your family are very welcome to stay with us. Our apartments are suitable for up to 4 persons, depending on the category, making them ideal for a family holiday in Hamburg. The spacious Maisonette Apartment with terrace for example, have enough room for two rollaway beds. Each extra bed costs 40 Euros per night. We are also happy to provide a cot for our very young guests at a charge of 10 Euros per night.

Is there an additional service for families?

We can provide a buggy during your stay free of charge, if required. We also work with a local child-care facility which can arrange experienced babysitters.

What services are included in the rate?

The rates shown include accommodation and VAT. They also include partial cleaning every 3rd night, and full cleaning every 6th night.

When do I have to pay for my booking?

We ask that you settle your account at reception during check-in. Please note that prepayment may be required when booking promotional or other special rates. Please see the booking conditions of the respective offer.

Can I bring my dog?

Your four-legged travel companion is welcome to stay with us! We charge a one-off cleaning fee of 25 Euros per week for your dog. The reception can provide information on dogsitters.

Is smoking permitted in the apartment?

We have been a non-smoking apartment property since 2015! And we are committed to keeping this promise to our guests. If the non-smoking rule is breached, we reserve the right to charge a special cleaning fee of 120 Euros.

Are there parking spaces on site, and do these need to be booked?

Upon request and subject to availability, you can park in our on-site underground car park, which has direct lift access to each floor. Parking bays cost 19 Euros per night. The clearance height is 2 metres. We recommend booking your parking bay in advance. Ask about our flat monthly rates for extended stays.

What time is the apartment available on the day of arrival?

Your apartment will be available from 3pm on the day of arrival. We will be glad to store your luggage for you before this time. Please speak to us if you would like to access your room earlier. If you would like to book a guaranteed early check-in from 11am, you are welcome to arrange this through the reception or Reservations department, though it is subject to availability. We charge 40 Euros for this.

During what hours is the reception staffed?

The reception team is available from 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 6pm on weekends and public holidays.

What do I need for check-in?

For the check-in process, we need you to complete the registration form. If you have already received this by email prior to your stay, you can send this to us beforehand by email, or submit it to reception upon arrival.
At check-in, you pay for the fixed services booked, such as accommodation, parking, rollaway bed or cot, for the entire stay. If you have already prepaid by credit card, please provide your credit card to authenticate the payment.
If you are travelling on business, please provide your complete employer confirmation on arrival, if you have not already sent it to us beforehand.
If you are a non-German citizen, we will require your passport/ID for check-in.

How do I check in outside reception hours?

If you arrive outside the reception’s opening hours, your room card will be provided in the check-in box next to the main front door. Please enter your first name and last name without spaces as a password. Once you have your card, please use the card reader on the wall to the right, in front of the front door.

How do I access the car park with my car?

If you have booked a parking bay in the car park, your room card will be coded to open the entrance gate. The entrance is located on the Dietmar- Koel- Straße. You can choose your own bay in the Hanse Clipper Haus car park. If you haven’t yet received your room card, please contact reception.

Is Internet available in the apartment?

Yes, we provide free WiFi throughout the entire property. You will be given the access details upon arrival. If you require a faster connection, you may opt for this for a charge of 3 Euros a day or 10 Euros a week.

Are there shops nearby?

The Rewe supermarket is on the street behind the Hanse Clipper Haus “Brauerknechtgraben”.It is opened Monday- Saturday from 07.00 am until 11.00pm.

Is there a shopping service?

We work with the Rewe delivery service (minimum order value 45 Euros), and will be glad to send you an order list beforehand. We check the desired delivery date and order the goods for you. We then charge you for the order. You can of course also order online directly through Rewe and have the goods delivered to your apartment.

Where can I get breakfast?

The Hanse Clipper Haus does not provide breakfast on site. As part of a co-operation with the “Coffee & Cakes“, however, we do offer a delicious breakfast option which you can enjoy from 7amdaily. You can book the breakfast directly through us for a price of € 10 per person/day, and the reception staff at the Hanse Clipper Haus will give you a voucher for the bistro.
Should you require further breakfast recommendations, our reception team will be more than happy to give you some great tips.

When are the apartments cleaned?

The booked rate includes partial cleaning every 3rd night and full cleaning every 6th night. You can also book an extra cleaning service in between through reception for a charge of 15 Euros.

Is there a laundry service?

We can arrange a laundry service for you Monday to Friday. If you hand your laundry into reception by 9am, you will receive it back by 6pm the same day. Express cleaning is also available upon request. Washing bags and lists can be found in your wardrobe. Washing machines, dryers and clothes drying racks are available free of charge from 8am to 8pm daily in our guest washroom on the 4th floor.

Can I hire an iron/ironing board?

We will be glad to provide you with an iron and ironing board free of charge. Please contact the reception team or our housemaid.

Is there a wellness facility?

No, we do not have our own wellness facility at the Hanse Clipper Haus. As part of a co-operation with the MERIDIAN SPA, located 150 Meters away, you will receive a 20% discount on all day passes there as a guest of our property. Please show your guest room card to their reception staff. We will then confirm your guest status to the MERIDIAN SPA team by telephone.

Can I hire a bathrobe?

We will be glad to provide a bathrobe and slippers in your apartment free of charge upon request.

Can I purchase Nespresso coffee capsules?

All apartments are equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, and we provide the first Nespresso coffee capsules for you in your apartment as a welcome gift. You are then welcome to purchase additional capsules from reception at a price of 0.70 Euros each.

Do you provide hypoallergenic beds?

We will be glad to provide hypoallergenic pillows and blankets upon request, and subject to availability.

Can I hire an umbrella?

Reception will be glad to loan you our umbrellas, subject to availability.

What are the special features of the Hanse Clipper Haus location?

The central location at the Portuguese Quarter close to St. Michael Church and Landungsbrücken will make your stay memorable. The walkable distance to a number of Hamburg’s culinary highlights and the Elbphilharmonie concert hall make the Hanse Clipper Haus location the ideal starting point for your stay in the Hanseatic city.

Until what time will I be able to use my apartment?

You will be able to have your apartment until 11am on the day of departure. We will be glad to store your luggage for you after this time.

Can I book a later check-out?

If you wish to book a guaranteed late check-out until 4pm, you are welcome to arrange this through the reception or Reservations department, though it is subject to availability. We charge 40 Euros for this.

Until what time do I have access to my reserved parking bay?

You will be able to have your parking bay in our car park until 11am on the day of departure. Should you wish to use this for longer, please speak to the reception team.

How does payment work?

You pay for the fixed services booked, such as accommodation, parking, rollaway bed or cot, for the entire stay at check-in.
If you have booked for more than 14 days, you will pay for the first 14 days at check-in, then for the next 14 days etc. Should you wish to pay in a different way, please discuss this with reception beforehand. Different conditions apply for payments involving cost absorption.

What methods of payment are accepted?

At the Hanse Clipper Haus, you can settle your account at reception using the most conventional methods of payment. These include: Cash, EC card, Maestro card, V-Pay card, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Cost absorption methods must be arranged and approved prior to the stay.
